Strategy People and Profit

Between your strategic plan and next set of financial results lies a defining chasm...its execution.

Most strategies do not drive people or profits they only document the 'what' and 'how' of the business, and are powerless to effect its execution. This leaves profits at the mercy of peoples' motivation, understanding and application.

What you ideally want from your people is always filtered by how they see things and by what they want. Only a confluence of motivation, understanding and application makes your strategy their strategy and your highest goals their highest goals, while a divergence undermines everything you are trying to achieve.

When your strategy includes a clear 'why' for the people who must execute it, the confluence of motivation, understanding and application produces an unstoppable drive to make your dream happen. Human beings were created to apply their highest skills; in expressing their highest aspirations; in a challenging environment of risk and reward. So, when people play a meaningful role, share in your vision, are appreciated and paid well for performance, anything becomes possible. Your strategy is filtered through three stages, each stage affecting the next.

The Motivation Filter
The motivation filter is the most critical but also the most ignored aspect of strategy execution because it is the least understood. Everything hinges on it because it does one of two things within people and within your business. It either stretched peoples' desire and ability to meet the demands of your strategy or it dilutes your strategy to meet their limited desire and ability.

Where motivation is strong people stretch their minds to understand not just what is required of them, but what is possible. They also focus their effort and stretch their skill in applying themselves to meet their highest aspirations and rewards - the execution of your strategy.

The Understanding Filter
The understanding filter either opens or shuts peoples' minds to achieving new possibilities. It has to do with more than just verbal consent to ambitious plans. It has to do with whether people really believe in your opportunity or not and whether they want to make it happen or not.

Where motivation is high objectives become personal, clear and believable, but when motivation is low objectives are never personal and seldom fully accomplished.

The Application Filter
The application filter is about much more than just accuracy and commitment in getting the job done - it is about whether every person in your organisation is motivated and working hard to improve yesterday's performance or just repeating it. It is the extent of this defining truth that determines whether or not your strategy is being executed effectively or not, and how quickly your business grows, stagnates or shrinks. Prodex is your tool to measure the effect of 'filtering' on your business's strategy and its results.
