Defining Your Difference Part 2
'Laws of Engagement'
SPIRITUAL LAWS are universal laws of cause and effect that govern the outcomes of human behaviour. Every thought or expression of human behaviour has a consequence, good or bad, dictated by a spiritual law. Our ultimate success or failure is totally dictated by unseen and unchanging Spiritual Laws that exist and that we have no control over.
MORAL LAWS, however, are laws designed to give us insight into the kind of behaviour that will result in positive consequences. By obeying moral laws, we ensure that the spiritual laws work for us, not against us. Morality is something we can respond to that gives us control over the outcomes of our choices and behaviour.
ENTREPRENEURIAL LAWS are the essential laws, for any person in any situation, that govern the mindset and behaviours essential for creating and developing sustainable opportunities for personal growth and expanding choices.
The idea that unseen spiritual and moral laws influence our actions and therefore the resultant outcomes that we do see is not new. Neither is this an idea that is only understood by philosophers, mystics and religious people of different persuasions.
It is simply a fact of life, and as embedded in our experience (whether we recognise it or not) as permanently as the laws that dictate our physical world such as gravity, or buoyancy. Let me illustrate. A sharp word to a colleague or employee will usually result in that person feeling offended, while a kind gesture to someone will have the opposite effect. These are simply spiritual and moral laws in action.
Science seeks to understand truth by studying the relationship between 'Cause' and 'Effect' in our physical world. For example, the unchanging laws of physics that control and protect our physical universe have formed the basis of every successful engineering or scientific invention. Any neglect or attempt to ignore these laws by us will be painful, costly and may even result in our demise. Put bluntly, only by mastering our understanding and application of the laws of physics, are we able to master our physical universe.
In the same way, as spiritual and moral beings, we need to master the unchanging laws that exist to control and guide our relational behaviour, and protect us from ourselves so that we can maximise our opportunities for mutual progress. Any neglect or disregard of these spiritual and moral laws has equally devastating consequences for humankind. We are reminded of this every day in our newspapers and on television, and in our daily interaction with people whether at work or at home. If we take the time to observe human behaviour in action, we have no option but to conclude that in general, we have not understood nor mastered the spiritual and moral laws that bring out the best in people. All too often, we have become masters at bringing out the worst in others.
So why this discussion anyway? When it comes to the high stakes that exist in business and society, and the complexities of human relationships on which our success depends, it makes perfect sense to reflect on the 'make or break' spiritual and moral laws that will determine the success or otherwise of our endeavours. This becomes more crucial than ever before as we face the challenge of creating a sustainable social and economic global future.
The laws of engagement combine the Spiritual, Moral and Entrepreneurial Laws that affect our lives on a daily basis and that aid our journey to discover greater meaning, fulfilment, synergy and performance in our working, and personal lives.
There is a distinct and vital connection between them ensuring that humankind's socio-economic development at a personal and collective level without compromising individual or collective interests.
